Mike O'Neil, Pollster, Political Analyst and Market Researcher**
Dr. O'Neil has been conducting public opinion polls that have been widely reported in local and national media for about 35 years. Over the last several years, he has been reflecting on what he has learned-–with a focus on aspects that are widely misunderstood by even the most educated segments of the public.
His presentation won’t tell you who will win the next election, but will provide some tools to help you decide when to pay attention to relevant polling—and when to ignore it as well as Interesting trends in public opinion and why the worst polls get the most coverage (and why this is unlikely to change).

Dr. Mike O’Neil has overseen over 1,700 research projects over the last 35 years--for just about every type of entity known to man. The only common thread is that each involved understanding what some definable group of people think
His survey research training includes significant work at both of the worlds leading academic survey research institutes: graduate work at the National Opinion Research Center of the University of Chicago and postdoctoral studies at the Survey Research Center of the Institute for Social Research at the University of Michigan.
He has been appointed to the faculty at the University of Michigan, the University of Illinois, and Northwestern University before starting his own firm, O’Neil Associates, in 1981.
Listed in Who’s Who in America, Dr. O’Neil is a Phi Beta Kappa honors graduate of Brown University, from which he also holds a Master’s degree in Sociology. His Ph.D. is from Northwestern.
