This year's tour features the world's foremost collection of
specimens of cacti and agaves in the Garden's herbarium
Wendy Hodgson and Andrew Salywon will demonstrate the painstaking procedure for preparing specimens of fleshy plants. Learn about the ways in which those specimens are used for scientific study and scientific illustration. The Garden's living collection of cacti and agaves was designated as the National Collection for these two plant families by the American Public Gardens Association last year. The excellence of the Research Department's scientific collection housed in the herbarium adds to this recognition.
